receives Indiana Hispanic Business Woman of the Year Award

Indianapolis, Indiana – The Indiana State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards dinner on October 19, 2006, at the luxurious OMNI Severin Hotel downtown. Mrs. Liliana Hamnik, founder and President of Indiana’s Leading Bilingual Newspaper, La Voz de Indiana, received the Indiana Hispanic Business Woman of the Year Award.

Mrs. Hamnik immigrated to the United States in 1998, became a U.S. citizen and embarked in the American Dream and the pursuit of happiness. Through hard work and diligence, Mrs. Hamnik recognized the vast need to inform and educate the fast growing Latino Community in Indiana. One year after her arrival into the states, her concept became a reality. She has really impacted the community by serving many nonprofit organizations, sponsoring youth soccer teams, organizing mother’s day events and much more. Not only is she a leader within the Immigrant Business community, but she is well known and respected for her business savvy in other business circles outside of the Hispanic Community. In addition to owning the newspaper, she owns several retail outlets including a hair saloon and boutique.

The process for receiving this award is a rigorous one. In order to qualify one must be nominated. Anyone can nominate, however, the person being nominated has to be a business owner of Hispanic origin. Once the nominations have been turned in, the nominating committee (composed of seven individuals) reviews all applications. The final nominees are chosen based upon the level of success in their business and their involvement and/or commitment with the community for the year.

La señora Liliana Hamnik, fundadora y Presidenta del Periódico Bilingüe Líder de Indiana, La Voz de Indiana, recibió el Premio A La Mujer De Negocios Hispana De Indiana Del Año.

La señora Hamnik inmigró a los Estados Unidos en 1998, se hizo ciudadana americana y se embarcó en el “Sueño Americano” y a la búsqueda de la felicidad. A través de trabajo duro y diligencia, la señora Hamnik reconoció la inmensa necesidad de informar y educar a la rápidamente creciente comunidad latina de Indiana. Un año después de su llegada a los Estados Unidos, su concepto se hizo realidad. Ella realmente ha impactado a la comunidad sirviéndoles a muchas empresas sin ánimo de lucro, patrocinando equipos de fútbol juveniles, organizando eventos del día de madres y mucho más. No sólo es ella una líder dentro de la comunidad de Negocios de Inmigrantes, sino que ella también es bien conocida y respetada por su habilidad en los negocios, en otros círculos de negocios fuera de la Comunidad hispana. Además de poseer el periódico, posee varios negocios de ventas al detal incluyendo una peluquería y una boutique.

El proceso para recibir este premio es uno riguroso. Para calificar, una debe ser nominada. Cualquiera puede nominar. Sin embargo, la persona a que está siendo nominada tiene que ser dueña de un negocio y ser de origen hispano. Una vez que las nominaciones han sido entregadas, el comité de nominación (compuesto por siete individuos) revisa todas las solicitudes. Las candidatas finalistas son escogidas con base en el nivel de éxito en su negocio y su envolvimiento y/o compromiso con la comunidad durante el año.

La Señora Hamnik ganó el premio a nivel estatal. Como resultado, la Señora Hamnik es ahora candidata para el premio de la Cámara de Comercio Hispana de los Estados Unidos (USHCC, por su sigla en inglés) - la Mujer de negocios Hispana Nacional del Año. La ganadora será anunciada en noviembre de 2007 en la hermoso isla de San Juan, Puerto Rico, durante la Convención Nacional de la USHCC.
